For ten years, Timberland art students and alumni have been gathering at Oktoberfest in St. Charles to create a pumpkin sculpture to the delight of visitors young and old. This year not only marked a milestone anniversary for the group, but the sculpture – a 10’6” tall Pegasus - was dedicated to 2007 Timberland grad and former art club president Sarah Dashley who tragically passed away in a fire in July. Sarah was well loved and had come back almost every year to help with the pumpkin structure, which made this year’s process both a work of love and heartache. Her best friend and THS alum Beth Wiejaczka-Long, along with her husband Bill Long, were on hand to assist with the special Pegasus, which was completed with wings and splashes of blue, in honor of Sarah’s favorite hair color. “Sarah was such a tremendous artist and supporter of the arts and dance and she gave back to Timberland and the WSD until the end,” said Timberland art teacher and Fine Arts Chair Crystal Wing. “It’s so hard to understand that she’s gone.” Dan Foust with the Lion’s Club donated the pumpkins used in creating the sculpture and the corn husks used for the wings were donated by Jackson's General Store and Farm Goods in Silex.
