Congratulations to Timberland seniors Megan Auringer, Jordan Banze, Morgan Buesse, Josie Campanella, Makenzie Lucas, Jonny Paneitz, Megan Reiter, Kamile Stuckey and Anna Turner who have received the Distinguished Student Leader Award from the Missouri Association of Student Councils (MASC). The award recognizes Missouri students who demonstrate superior student council leadership skills and knowledge based on MASC criteria and evaluation procedures.
Timberland senior Megan Auringer has been a part of her student council for three years, currently serving as its vice president. Auringer also employs her leadership in DECA, where she is the social manager. In addition to DECA, she also participates in NHS and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Not only is she a leader inside of school, but Auringer has also been the team captain of Timberland’s basketball and soccer teams. She plans to further her academic career at Concordia University.
Jordan Banze is on her third year in Timberland’s student council, serving as the organization’s treasurer this year. Banze is also in a leadership position for her school’s NHS, acting as its secretary. She keeps busy with other clubs and leadership opportunities, such as HOSA - Future Health Professionals, Link Crew and serves as a class officer. Though injuries and resulting surgeries have recently kept her off the field of play, Banze’s love for sports has inspired her to study exercise science (specializing in physical therapy) at Missouri State University.
Megan Buesse has been on Timberland’s student council for two years, currently serving as a commissioner vice officer. Buesse also spends time working with her school’s DECA and NHS organizations. She would like to pursue a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Missouri.
Josie Campanella has been on student council for Timberland the last three years, and leads their fundraising efforts this year. Campanella also lends her leadership talents to the associate student council. As part of DECA, she is an employee for the club’s store; and she’s also the French Club President. Campanella plans to attend the University of Missouri-Kansas City to study marketing.
Makenzie Lucas has been associated with Timberland student council for three years, serving in leadership capacities all three years - art commissioner (sophomore), photo historian (junior), and fundraising commissioner (senior). She keeps busy with DECA, NHS and French Club, serving as a manager for the boys’ soccer team, and performing duties as a class officer. In previous years, she also participated in girls’ soccer, theater, choir, Link Crew, Captain's Council and Gateway 2 Change. Lucas plans to attend DePaul University, with a double major - French and international relations.
In his second year with Timberland student council, Jonny Paneitz now serves as its president. Paneitz leads as captain of the school’s varsity wrestling team, as well, for which he played all four years. He was also picked as one of four Spirit Leaders for Timberland this year. Though Paneitz has yet to decide on a college, he plans to study mechanical engineering or environmental engineering.
Megan Reiter has been a member of Timberland student council for three years, serving as its vice president. Reiter leads in other organizations, as well, serving as the school’s DECA secretary, and its NHS treasurer. Her leadership transcends the classroom, as she’s led others as varsity basketball captain and varsity lacrosse captain. Reiter stays busy, also playing varsity tennis, participating in Link Crew and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and volunteering for Special Olympics of Missouri. She plans to study finance and management at the University of Alabama.
Kamile Stuckey has been on Timberland’s student council for three years, currently serving as secretary. Stuckey is also involved in NHS, and plans to attend college at either University of Missouri or University of Tennessee.
Anna Turner has been in Timberland’s student council for two years, currently serving as its parliamentarian. Turner is also a member of HOSA - Future Health Professionals and the A+ Program. On top of that, she works at St. Patrick School in Wentzville. Turner is a member of the French Club, as well, and hopes that experience will help her when she studies international business at her university of choice.
The students received their award on March 9, 2019, at the final general session of the MASC State Convention at Lindbergh High School. MASC’s mission is to provide programs and resources that develop positive student leaders and advisors who will promote a quality school and community environment.
