• Dr. Curtis Cain has served as Superintendent of the Wentzville School District since 2013. He is responsible for the educational performance and well-being of over 17,300 students and the productivity of our 2,600 staff members in the fastest-growing district in the state of Missouri. Currently, Wentzville’s performance on the state’s Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) is in the top 12% of the 518 school districts in Missouri. 

    He was named the 2022 Missouri Superintendent of the Year, and he was selected as a finalist for AASA's 2022 National Superintendent of the Year®.

    Prior to serving the WSD, he was the Associate Superintendent for Educational Services in the Shawnee Mission School District (near the Kansas City metropolitan area). Before that, he was the Director of Curriculum and Professional Development for the Park Hill School District. 

    Dr. Cain completed his B.S. degree at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and his M.S. and Ph.D. at Iowa State University. While at Iowa State University, he was named a George Washington Carver Doctoral Fellow and awarded the Jordan Larsen Outstanding Dissertation in Educational Administration Award. In 2009, he was also honored as the Iowa State University Outstanding Young Professional Award winner by the College of Human Sciences. 

    Dr. Cain's teaching experience spans grades seven through the university level with an emphasis in the social sciences, performance evaluation, and issues related to disparity and diversity. He has also directed consortia and district-specific performance appraisal system development, curriculum renewal, realignment, and assessment. Dr. Cain, an associate lead auditor with Curriculum Management System Incorporated (CMSi), has served on audits across 11 states and in the nation of Bermuda. 

    Dr. Cain is a member of the Phi Delta Kappa (PDK) and Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) Emerging Leader programs. In 2018, he completed the American Association of School Administrators National Superintendent Certification Program. Nationally he also serves on the Phi Delta Kappa (PDK) International Board and currently serves as the Chair of the Foundation Board. Dr. Cain serves on the Missouri Commissioner of Education Advisory Council, the Kansas/Missouri Superintendent Leadership Forum Advisory Board, and the Missouri State High School Activities Association Constitutional Committee. Locally, he volunteers on the St. Charles Economic Development Council Board of Directors, he also serves on the St. Charles County Partners for Progress Education Committee, Compass Health Network Governing Board of Directors, the Partners for Progress Healthy St. Charles Leadership Council, and the Barnes-Jewish St Peters and Progress West Foundation Board. He also served as the President of the St. Charles County Centers for Advanced Professional Studies. In 2016, Dr. Cain received the Missouri Association of School Administrators New Superintendent Award. 

    Dr. Cain was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he attended Milwaukee Public Schools and is a graduate of Rufus King High School.
