Dr. Curtis Cain has served as Superintendent of the Wentzville School District since 2013. He is responsible for the educational performance and well-being of over 16,800 students and the productivity of our 2,400 staff members in the fastest growing district in the state of Missouri. Currently, Wentzville’s performance on the state’s Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) is in the top 10% of the 516 school districts in Missouri. The District is a leader in Project Lead the Way.
Most recently, he was the Associate Superintendent for Educational Services in the Shawnee Mission School District (near the Kansas City metropolitan area). Prior to that, he was the Director of Curriculum and Professional Development for the Park Hill School District.
Curtis completed his B.S. degree at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and his M.S. and Ph.D. at Iowa State University. While at Iowa State University; he was named a George Washington Carver Doctoral Fellow and awarded the Jordan Larsen Outstanding Dissertation in Educational Administration Award. In 2009, he was also honored as the Iowa State University Outstanding Young Professional Award winner by the College of Human Sciences.
Cain’s teaching experience spans grades seven through the university level with an emphasis on the social sciences, performance evaluation, and issues related to disparity and diversity. He has also directed consortia and district-specific performance appraisal system development, curriculum renewal, realignment, and assessment. Cain, an associate lead auditor with Curriculum Management System Incorporated (CMSi), has served on audits across 11 states and in the nation of Bermuda.
Curtis is a member of the Phi Delta Kappa (PDK) and Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) Emerging Leader programs. Nationally, he also serves on the Phi Delta Kappa (PDK) International Board and will serve as the Board Chair in 2017-2018. Cain serves on the Missouri Commissioner of Education Advisory Council, the Kansas/Missouri Superintendent Leadership Forum Advisory Board, and the Missouri State High School Activities Association Constitutional Committee. He’s also worked with the ASCD National Legislative and Position Advocacy, and Annual Conference Planning Committees. Locally, Cain volunteers on the St. Charles Economic Development Board of Directors, St. Charles County Partners for Progress Education Committee, the Partners for Progress Healthy St. Charles Leadership Council, and the Barnes-Jewish St Peters and Progress West Foundation Board.
Curtis was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he attended Milwaukee Public Schools and is a graduate of Rufus King High School.
