At times, the WSD partners with community agencies that specialize in providing students, families, and educators with preventative education. Agency presenters are credentialed, coordinated through the District, and under the supervision of building administrators. Presentation topics are targeted toward specific grade levels. We value the input of our families and understand the importance of ensuring each child's educational experience aligns with their values and beliefs. Health
The district will offer instruction on student health and well-being and will provide instruction regarding human growth and development, human sexuality, and sexual abuse, as required by law.
The district will notify the parents/guardians of the basic content of the district's human sexuality and sexual abuse instruction. The district will also notify parents/guardians of their right to remove their student from any part of the district's instruction. The district will make these materials available to the public upon request.
As per state standards, Wentzville School District’s health curriculum first introduces students to human growth and development in fourth grade. Topics related to sexual education continue through middle and high school health instruction. In accordance with section 170.045 RSMo., school districts are required to provide age and developmentally-appropriate sexual abuse prevention education to students.
Resources noted below are provided to support parents in understanding WSD’s health and sexual education instruction. If you need additional information, please contact your child’s school.

iReady
iReady is an adaptive diagnostic assessment that provides teachers with actionable insight into student needs. It personalizes instruction based on diagnostic results of their benchmark assessments three times a year and is a strongly correlated assessment to Missouri Learning Standards. Teachers are provided with instant data to give a clear picture of how students are progressing through the Missouri Learning Standards, so they are able to adjust their lessons to help students achieve their learning goals.i-Ready Reading Assessments
Missouri law requires students to be assessed for their reading or reading readiness through a reading assessment approved by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (“DESE”) as follows:
-
All students enrolled in kindergarten through grade three must be assessed by a state-approved assessment at the beginning and end of each school year.
-
All newly enrolled students in a school in grades one through five must be assessed for reading level or readiness from the state-approved list.
The state-approved list as of April 21, 2023, may be accessed on DESE’s website. The District has selected i-Ready reading as its exclusive state-approved reading assessment. Parents of students covered by Missouri law (see above) may not opt out of i-Ready reading assessments.
Parents of students not covered by law should contact their building principal to discuss opting out of i-Ready reading assessments.
i-Ready Math Assessments
iReady math is the district-adopted, board-approved, comprehensive math resource that supports the district curriculum. iReady is the math assessment tool for the Wentzville School District in grades K - 8. Due to the fact these assessments are the curricular resource we rely upon, students may not opt out of iReady math.

Leader In Me
This year our buildings are excited to embark upon our Leader in Me journey. Leader in Me (LiM) is an evidence-based, comprehensive school-improvement model—developed in partnership with educators and FranklinCovey—that empowers students with the leadership and life skills they need to thrive in a global community.
Leader in Me is about empowering your child to reach their full potential while ultimately finding their voice. Leader in Me provides our district with the vision and language to lead the school in a way that addresses all areas of development. As each child discovers and develops their unique gifts and talents, they are given opportunities to lead. As leaders, they become active, engaged partners in their own education, and their self-confidence, responsibility, and initiative grow.
The children quickly understand the benefits of different gifts and talents; they learn to listen to new ideas, work together to achieve results, and motivate one another to be the best. We hope your school enjoys sharing these new opportunities. Together, we will see each child grow throughout the year.
If you have additional questions or would like to discuss opting out, please reach out to your school principal.
