WSD Student Receives National Merit® Scholarship
May 9, 2025
The WSD is proud to announce that Rachel Goldberg from North Point High School has been selected as a winner of one of the National Merit $2,500 Scholarships! The 2,500 recipients of the National Merit $2,500 Scholarship were chosen from a talent pool of more than 15,000 outstanding Finalists in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program. These scholarships are underwritten by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC®) with its own funds; corporate sponsors help underwrite these awards.
Goldberg has a weighted GPA of 4.491, scored a 33 on the ACT, is ranked first in her class, and is recognized as an AP Scholar with Distinction. She serves as the NHS president and is a four-year member of HOSA, having served as the vice president and president. Goldberg is active in the theater department, is a class officer, and is a member of the tennis team, scholar bowl, jazz band, black student union, and international thespian society. Her intended major is biochemistry, and she plans to attend the University of Missouri-Columbia.
The National Merit Scholarship Program for 2025 started with the PSAT/NMSQT taken by high school juniors in October 2023. The top-scoring students in each state (less than 1% of seniors) became Semifinalists in fall 2024. Over 15,000 of these Semifinalists then met high standards to become Finalists. In 2025, more than 6,930 Finalists will be named "Merit Scholars" and will receive almost $26 million in college scholarships.
