Here is your one-stop shop to see what amazing programs and clubs we offer at LVE!
Art Club: Sponsor - Mrs. Tow
Art club is offered to third and fourth grade students and we meet one morning per week before school for 4 weeks. Students who are interested will get more information and a permission slip to sign up for art club as the start date gets closer (usually in February). Art club is a great place for students who love to create! We practice different artist skills, use different artist techniques, and make projects that students will be able to take home.
Battle of the Books and Reading Club: Sponsor - Ms. Cook
The Battle of the Books is a Reading Club that is offered to fourth and fifth grade students. Students will read books and then display their knowledge of the books while competing in trivia-style competitions. Students will read books from the twelve Mark Twain Award Nominees for the school year. However, students do not have to read all twelve books. Students will attend meetings or "training sessions" in the library on designated mornings. During the "training sessions", students will engage in fun group activities to learn more about the books. Then students will compete in a variety of competitions. Battle of the Books offers a fun and exciting competition format while encouraging students to grow as readers.
Computer Club: Sponsor - Mr. Gill
Students, in 2nd through 5th grade, will have the opportunity to join an exciting Google CS First course. Each course is built around student interests and varies in complexity. They are designed to introduce students to core computer science concepts over several sessions. Students will learn to code using blocks that snap together like puzzle pieces. With Google CS First, students can program their own interactive stories, games, and animations.
Choir Club: Sponsor - Mrs. Bartlow
The Lakeview Lion Pride choir is open to students in fourth and fifth grade. We meet before school on Thursdays. Rehearsals run from September through December. Students work on developing vocal techniques and choral skills. We have a variety of performances. We sing at: The Festival of Choirs, Veterans Day, The Winter Concert, and take a field trip to sing at a nursing home. Our club ends with a pizza party after our nursing home visit.
Film Festival Club: Sponsor - Ms. Cook
The Film Festival Club is offered to fourth and fifth grade students. Each year the Wentzville School District encourages students to participate in the district-wide Film Festival. The student-led event is a wonderful way for students to create, write, produce, and shine as filmmakers. Students at the elementary level can participate in the district-wide competition, and the films can be created by students with the assistance of a teacher. The purpose of this club is to help students create and submit films for the district level competition. During club meetings, students will view, create, edit, and produce films using WeVideo. Additional work time might be needed outside of the club meeting times. We have had many amazing films submitted in previous years by LVE students as well as many winners! We are excited to start this club in January.
Sports Club: Sponsor - Mr. Malloy
The Sports Club is open to fourth and fifth grade students. We will meet before school, with the dates and times listed on the sign up form. I talk about the club during P.E. class and give forms out to students who are interested. Students will participate in a variety of P.E. activities that could include fitness games, team sports, and much more.

Our workouts consist of constantly varied, functional movements that deliver a fitness that is broad, inclusive and general. Because exercise plays a part in the neurological development of kids and has been found to facilitate learning.
Leaders of the Pride: Sponsor - Ms. Schlichter and Mrs. Deeker
Leaders of the Pride is a group made up of Lakeview's best leaders. These students are selected to be their den's leader or were selected to be their houses Head of House or House Apprentice. Altogether, these students are called the "Leaders of the Pride". During our meetings we learn how to lead den or house meetings, we learn how to be amazing leaders, and we prepare materials for our upcoming den meetings.
Our House System:
One of our favorite parts of Lakeview is the House System! This system was created by the Ron Clark Academy (RCA), and it has a proven track record of creating a positive school climate and culture that is embraced by students, staff, and families. We want our students to look forward to coming to school each day, and schools around the world that have implemented the program have reported many positive outcomes, such as a decrease in discipline referrals, more positive relationships among peers and staff, better school attendance, and improvements in academic performance. This is because the system encourages students to take ownership of their learning and behavior while working together to achieve common goals. Lakeview is no exception. We've seen countless positive outcomes from our House System. A key element of the House System is the way that it increases students’ motivation to succeed in school by fostering a sense of belonging among all students and staff, and parents often report feeling more connected to the school community as well. To achieve this, each student will be a part of one of four houses and will have the opportunity to participate in house-specific events and activities throughout the year. By being a part of a house, every child has a smaller group within the larger school community. In other words, every student will have “a crew and a cause.” Additionally, students will have the opportunity to take on leadership roles within their houses, such as serving as heads of house, house apprentice, or other school wide leadership roles. Throughout the school year, students will have the opportunity to receive points for their houses. Points are awarded for going above and beyond expectations in areas such as academic achievement, character, school spirit, and uplifting others. While points are not the primary purpose of this program, when students work together to earn points for their houses, they celebrate, support, and encourage one another to achieve excellence. The house who earns the most points at the end of the year will be named the House Champions!
Leader in Me at LVE:
This year, Lakeview has implemented the Leader in Me Program. Our hope is that this program and the lessons will help prepare every child to be successful for the demands of the 21st Century. The intentional focus on leadership develops the whole child and includes literacy, math, content areas, technology, the arts and interpersonal relationship skills. The Leader in Me program uses the Seven Habits of Happy Kids in order to help students become “leaders of their own learning.” This philosophy is embedded within our school culture. It leads to higher levels of learning and greater satisfaction as the students take ownership of their academic goals and character development. Your child will be learning about the seven habits, and you may hear them using this language at home. Thank you for your support as we take on this new adventure!
Habit 1: Be Proactive - I am a responsible person. I take initiative. I choose my actions, attitudes, and moods. I do not blame others for my wrong actions. I do the right thing without being asked, even when no one is looking.
Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind - I plan ahead and set goals. I do things that have meaning and make a difference. I am an important part of my classroom and contribute to my school’s mission and vision, and look for ways to be a good citizen.
Habit 3: Put First Things First - I spend my time on things that are most important. This means I say no to things I know I should not do. I set priorities, make a schedule, and follow my plan. I am disciplined and organized.
Habit 4: Think Win-Win - I balance courage for getting what I want with consideration for what others want. I make deposits in others’ Emotional Bank Accounts. When conflicts arise, I look for a third alternative.
Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood - I listen to other people’s ideas and feelings. I try to see things from their viewpoints. I listen to others without interrupting. I am confident in voicing my ideas. I look people in the eyes when talking.
Habit 6: Synergize - I value other people’s strengths and learn from them. I get along well with others, even people who are different from me. I work well in groups. I seek out other people’s ideas to solve problems because I know that by teaming with others we can create better solutions than any one of us alone. I am humble.
Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw - I take care of my body by eating right, exercising, and getting sleep. I spend time with family and friends. I learn in lots of ways and lots of places, not just at school. I take time to find meaningful ways to help others.
