THS Senior Receives Chick Evans Scholarship
Timberland High School senior Collin Rooney has been named the recipient of a Chick Evans Scholarship for Caddies from The Western Golf Association. The Evans Scholarship is a full, four-year, tuition and housing scholarship for golf caddies and is awarded based on a strong caddie record, excellent academics, demonstrated financial need and outstanding character. Rooney is one of 260 Evans Scholars nationwide who will begin their college education this fall.
Rooney played soccer for the Timberland Wolves for four years, serving as the team captain as a sophomore, and a member of the Ultimate Frisbee club. He will graduate magna cum laude with a 3.9 GPA, and has completed the A+ Program. Rooney has caddied at Lake Forest Country Club for the past three years, and plans to continue doing so throughout college. “Receiving this scholarship puts my mind at ease and gives me the greatest honor that I could have going to college,” shared Rooney. He will attend the University of Missouri-Columbia and intends to major in health sciences and pursue a career as a neurosurgeon.
Since 1930, more than 10,000 young men and women have been awarded Evans Scholarships to some of the nation’s top universities. On campus, Evans Scholars live together in a Scholarship House owned by the Evans Scholars Foundation.
