WSD Scores 99.1% on State Report Card
The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) released the 2018 Annual Performance Report (APR) data this week for school districts around the state. The Wentzville School District scored 99.1 percent in the evaluation system, up from 97.5 percent last year and the highest the District has scored since the state started using the evaluation tool six years ago. It is also one of the top 10 scores for school districts in the greater St. Louis area. The APR is part of the Missouri School Improvement Plan (MSIP 5), a rigorous evaluation tool for rating the performance of Missouri school districts.
The standard of MSIP 5 measures five areas: Academic Achievement, Subgroup Achievement, College and Career Readiness, Attendance, and Graduation Rate. MSIP 5 is used to distinguish the performance of schools and districts in valid, accurate and meaningful ways so that districts in need of improvement can receive appropriate support and interventions, and high‐performing districts can be recognized as models of excellence.
According to DESE, this year’s APR data reflected a slightly heavier focus on non-academic factors such as high school readiness (K-8 districts), college and career readiness (K-12 districts), attendance and graduation rates. DESE reports that Missouri schools continued to prepare students for success after graduation, with tangible results: more students both participated in advanced placement courses and scored a 3 or better on AP exams, enrollment increased in dual enrollment and Project Lead the Way courses, and a greater number of students earned industry-recognized credentials. The WSD scored a perfect 100 percent in Academic Achievement, College and Career Readiness, Attendance, and Graduation Rate, but did not receive all possible points in the Subgroup Achievement category.
“All stakeholders in the WSD should be very proud of our score. It is a direct reflection of our outstanding staff and the work they do with students every day to increase achievement. Parents, staff, and community partners who encourage good attendance should also take pride in the gains we’ve made in that area,” said Superintendent Dr. Curtis Cain. “The District continues to excel and improve, but we also recognize we still have room to grow, and we will continue to develop new strategies to ensure that all students can be successful. Overall, these results are impressive and further evidence that we have implemented quality curricular programs in the WSD so our students can be well prepared for their future endeavors.”
