Candidate filing for the Wentzville School District Board of Education closed on Dec. 30. Three community members filed to run for the district’s three open seats, which are currently held by Renee Henke, David Lewis, and Jen Olson.

In accordance with state statute, the Wentzville School District will not hold an election for the three-year Board of Education terms this year because the number of candidates who filed matches the number of positions available. The three candidates — Shaun Johnson, Bertha Schultz, and Kirby Wilson — will be sworn into office at the Board of Education’s reorganization meeting on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.

Shaun Johnson

Shaun Johnson is a senior manager at World Wide Technology, where he has spent the past six years leading teams and delivering results in a highly collaborative, people-focused environment. A resident of the Wentzville School District since 2014, Shaun and his family are deeply invested in the community, with one child currently attending Peine Ridge Elementary.

Shaun has spent much of his adult life working alongside educators. From 2008 through 2020, he was actively involved in the marching arts community as a staff member for several regional and local music programs. Working hand in hand with full-time educators and support staff provided him with firsthand insight into the daily realities of schools and reinforced his deep respect for the critical role teachers play in shaping students’ lives.

In addition to his professional background, Shaun has remained engaged at the school level as a member of the Barfield Early Childhood Center PTO from fall 2024 through spring 2025, where he focused on supporting school events and strengthening community involvement.

Upon joining the Wentzville Board of Education, Shaun will focus on strengthening the partnership between educators, staff, and families. His priorities will include:

  • Retaining our exceptional current staff
  • Attracting new talent as the district continues to grow
  • Making sound, financially responsible decisions that ensure students, staff, and families receive the best educational experience possible
  • Future-proofing school infrastructure to ensure legacy buildings remain outstanding places to learn for years to come

Shaun believes that when the district flourishes, the entire community benefits, and he will bring a collaborative, thoughtful approach to serving alongside fellow board members.

Bertha Schultz

Bertha Schultz

I would like to become a board member for the Wentzville School District to continue supporting public education. I worked as an educator in the Fort Zumwalt School District for 27 years as a Special Education Teacher, Middle School Science Teacher, and Secondary School Counselor.  Since retiring about two years ago,  I have been looking for ways to continue supporting students, families, and other educators.  I feel that public education needs strong, experienced individuals to advocate for continued state and federal support that provides a free and appropriate education for all students in the community.

My family and I have lived in the Wentzville School District for the last 18 years. My three children began attending Wentzville schools in their elementary years and continued through graduation. My experience as a Wentzville School District parent saw very dedicated and highly effective teachers. My children were challenged then supported to learn and achieve. The teachers also made meaningful connections and showed genuine care. With this strong foundation, all of my children continued on with successful post-secondary degrees.

My goal in running for school board is to bring my perspective as an educator and parent to the Wentzville School District community. I am not coming in with a personal agenda or narrow focus. I feel my job after the election will be to learn from the employees, parents, students, and community what they value from the Board, how they need to feel supported, and what concerns need to be addressed. I look forward to serving the community and district.

Kirby Wilson

I am running for the Wentzville R-IV Board of Education because I believe strong public schools are essential to a healthy community and a strong local economy. As a lifelong resident of the St. Louis area and a ten-year resident of the Wentzville School District, I care deeply about the future of our schools and the students they serve.

With three children in Wentzville schools, I understand the concerns of parents and patrons and the importance of safe schools, strong academics, and responsible use of taxpayer dollars. I believe our greatest strength is our teachers and staff, and I support giving them the time, resources, and respect they need to help students succeed.

I hold an engineering degree from Purdue University and bring years of experience as an information technology consultant, giving me a practical, problem-solving approach to complex challenges. I want to help guide the district through growth, long-term planning, and the changing demands of education while staying focused on what matters most: preparing students to adapt, learn, and succeed in a rapidly changing world.

I believe in listening to educators, communicating openly with the community, and keeping the Board’s focus on students. As a Board member, I will work to ensure the Wentzville School District remains strong, forward-thinking, and a source of pride for our community.
