Earning a High School Diploma

At Wentzville, students can graduate with a general diploma or a college preparatory certificate. A general diploma requires a student to earn 25 units of credit in English, social studies, mathematics, science, fine arts, physical education, health, practical arts and various electives. To earn a college preparatory certificate, students must earn 25 units of credit, while maintaining an overall grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in the combined subject areas of English, mathematics, science, social studies, fine arts, practical arts, health, physical education, various electives and concentrated electives. The student must also score above the national average on the ACT or SAT college entrance exams.

Missouri A+ Schools Program

The A+ Schools program is a school-improvement initiative established by the Outstanding Schools Act of 1993. Wentzville Holt HIgh School was the first high school in St. Charles County to receive A+ designation in 1997.

The A+ Program is raising academic and citizenship standards during high school and is inspiring students to develop a career path wth a post-secondary plan.

Wentzville High School graduates who meet the seven specific A+ State requirements may be eligible to receive state reimbursement for tuition and general fees to atttend any Missouri public community college or vocational/technical school as state funds allow. A+ Program requirements include:

1. Attend an A+ designated high school for three full years prior to graduation
2. Maintain and graduate with a minimum accumulative 2.5 grade point average
3. Document 95% annual and accumulative attendance record
4. Complete 50 hours of supervised tutoring with younger students in the District
5. Demonstrate a record of good citizenship during all four years of high school
6. File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) senior year. File online by visiting www.fafsa.ed.gov between January and May.
7. Register for Selective Service, if applicable. Register online by visiting www.sss.gov

The A+ Program incentive may be available for a period of four years after high school graduation. To maintain A+ eligibility during this time, participating students must enroll and attend a Missouri community college or public vocation or technical school on a full-time basis and maintain a minimum of a 2.5 grade point average.

Advanced Placement/College Credit

Advanced placement courses and exams are offered in American History, English, Advanced Biology, Advanced Physics, Advanced Chemistry, Calculus, French, Spanish, and German. An Advanced College Credit Program at Wentzville Holt High School also enables qualifying seniors to simultaneously earn college credits in Advanced Biology, Advanced Chemistry, Advanced Placement English, American History, Art History, German, French, and Spanish. Students may also earn college credit from Lindenwood University, University of Missouri-St. Louis, and St. Charles Community College.

Vocational Technical School

Specialized programs of study in vocational/technical areas are available to a select group of Wentzville High School students through Lewis and Clark Area Vocational Technical School. Twelve programs are offered, including courses in automotive repair, building trades, technology, drafting design technology,electronics, health occupations and heating/air conditioning repair.

 

Guidance

A guidance counselor is assigned to each high school student. A counselor is available to help the student overcome any academic or personal problem. The counselor has information on a variety of occupations, as well as college programs and scholarships. The counselor will aid the student in planning high school coursework to best meet the present and future needs of the student. Parents are encouraged to contact their child's counselor for any related information. Extended hours are offered by the guidance department for appointments after school and in the evenings.

 

Special Services

The Wentzville School District provides an appropriate educational programming for students with education disabilities in the areas of learning disabilities, behavior disorders/emotional disturbances, mental retardation, speech and language disorders, physically disabled, other health impaired, multi-handicapped, autistic, visually impaired, deaf/blind, and traumatic brain injury. Services are provided for eligible students through age 21. At Wentzville, the Special Services Department has successfully established several partnerships in the community with local businesses to provide school-to-work transition programs for students with disabilities.
